The Southern Wings, based in Winder, GA (otherwise known as "The Motorcycle Capital of the World"), is a local Chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA).  They belong to the Southeast Region (A), Georgia District of this wonderful organization that promotes "Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge" for the owners of Honda Gold Wing and Valkyrie motorcycles. (All motorcyclists regardless of the model they ride, are welcome!)

Their chapter is made up of riders of both genders from Barrow and multiple surrounding counties.  Their youngest chapter member is three (not quite a solo rider yet), and the oldest is 70+.  Some ride two wheelers, many ride "trikes" or three wheelers.  The members come from all different backgrounds, creeds and riding experience and what brings them together is their love for riding motorcycles.

Participation with their organization focuses on the four points in their motto:  Friends - developing life-long friendships; Fun - if it ain't fun, they don't do it!  Safety - they promote safety in riding above all and have several continuing education/on the road practice sessions throughout the year to hone their riding skills and promote safe, alternative riding, as well as first-responder first aid & CPR courses designed specifically to respond to motorcycle accidents; Knowledge: numerous seminars, courses and an entire multi-level training program devoted specifically to Leadership Trainng on concepts that can be used in and out of their organization.

As a Chapter, they are very active in local communities with regard to support of local charities and causes because they feel it is important to give where they can.  This is just a sampling of the causes they have supported with their time, talent and "treasure":  Ride For Kids/Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation; Toys for Tots; Dream House for Medically Fragile Children in Georgia; Piedmont Rape Crisis Center; DCFS Christmas Project, as well as donations to numerous private causes.

The GWRRA chapters are from all over the State of Georgia and have a traveling plaque.  They travel from chapter to chapter every 30 days or so to "capture" the plaque.  The "capture" is determined by the number of motorcycle riders X the number of miles they travel from their chapter to the chapter who holds the plaque.  Whichever chapter has the most miles gets the plaque and has 30 days to give it away. This GWRRA chapter captured the plaque last month.

The plaque will be given away at 2 p.m.  All proceeds raised will be donated to COTA for Lance. 

We also want to thank Midway Christian Church for opening their doors and hearts and allowing this event to take place at their church.  We can never thank these wonderful Christian people enough.
