The Feeding tube has been removed!!

Lance's appointment went well on Friday. He had gained a pound and the transplant team was happy with how everything looked so we got the ok to pull it. Lance had mixed feelings about this. I think it was a comfort thing to him. He was a little nervous about taking all the medicine, but he is doing great! He takes them like a champ and we are so Thankful for that. His next appointment is 9-23-09 and this is the appointment where they check to make sure there is no rejection. He will also see the neurologist and hopefully they will take him off his seizure medicine. The medicine he is on is called Keppra and it can make him a little hard to handle at times. So that one is one I can't wait to start getting him off of. He is adjusting well, but I think the day at school wears him out. Almost everyday he ends up having to go upstairs to take a nap when he gets home. We are doing great and making it day by day. We are all so excited about the car show coming up on the 26th!

Going for sceduled appointment today!

Lance has an appointment with Dr. Mahle today and if all goes well his feeding tube will be removed TODAY!! This is comes with mixed emotions, if the tube comes out the tough part will be little man adjusting to taking 15 meds by mouth. It has been easy up until now to send his medicine down via the feeding tube. If the tube comes out, we will need to allow for about 1 hour or so of drama trying to get a 6 year old to take all these meds by mouth. He will do I know but it will start off as a challenge. On the other hand it will be so nice to see Lance's face without the tube coming out of his nose. We will wait to see what the verdict is today. It all depends on if Dr. Mahle is pleased with his weight. I now we will adjust to him taking the meds by mouth, because thankfully Lance learned pretty early how to swallow pills. However, not all his meds can come in pill form. The ones that don't I am sure don't taste good.

Back from our long awaited vacation.

We went to Florida for Labor day weekend and had such a great time. Lance had a ball in the water. We were a little concerned whether we would be making it on the trip, because the Thursday befor we left Lance started getting sick and we took him to the hospital so they could make sure his heart function was OK and after they did an echo we knew he was fine. He just caught  a little something, but as long as he wasn't sick anymore than we could go forward with our plans for the beach. We left Friday afternoon and got there that night. We went with our buddies the Murphy's and had a ball.

Lance made it the whole day at school and seems to be settling down to the new routine.

Lance decided he only needed to stay at school a couple of hours today.

Lance made it until about 10:30 today and got tired, so in my mind he will be needing one of his Grandma's to take him to school until he is probably in 10th grade.  We shall see. It's funny he was tired until he got home and then he was WIDE awake. We will pray for a full day tomorrow, but Grandma Judy will be with him so that should happen. Over all health wise he is doing well and one number they were watching was his creatinine level (this has to do with his kidney function) and that number came down to where they wanted it. So all is good. Lance continues to do what they ask of him and we are so pleased. Lance doesn't go back to the hospital until the 11th of September. He will have an echo and labs.

Smooth sailing!

This has been a great weekend. Lance is moving right along and definetly has more energy than we do. We went to a nice picnic hosted by a very nice man through Make-A-Wish. He did this on his own for all the families he has gotten close with while doing what I feel is "his calling". It was so nice and the kids loved it, it was at Noah's Ark in Locust Grove and it is a safe haven for once abused or neglected animals. Lance and a few other kids got the luxury of touring the property on a golf cart, but the rest of us got our daily walk that is for sure. It was so nice and we thank you so much Mr. Jerry.

Good News!!!

Lance had his cath first thing this morning and he did great. The GREAT news is the CVP that was way to high before, is now a 7 (which is really good). That takes such a load off. Lance has struggled with that number being to high for a long time now. When they first told us it was to high was right after his transplant, and that was the day we had a really big scare. They thought he must be having rejection issues, they also said his heart seemed to be stiffening.  As it turned out he wasn't having rejection issues it was from all the fluid his body was not absorbing. My concern was that if that number stayed to high he would be damaging other organs. Thankfully, this isn't an issue anymore!!!  All the prayers are working.

Cath day is tomorrow.

Lance has a cath tomorrow. So please pray that his CVP(Central venous Pressure) is coming down to a normal range. We think with the new diuretic he was placed on should  correct that. Lance cracked me up tonight, on our way home from taking Emory to scouts he asked me "if I wanted to take a walk" and I said "sure." I said "we will just have to get your hat" he said "Mom, my skin is not sensitive to sun anymore". He cracked my up with the ease that these words flew out of his mouth. We are leaving for our walk now, just wanted to post that before I forgot it. I am losing my mind these days and want to have things to reflect on down the road. Thanks for all the prayers!!!

Great Weekend!!!

Lance had a great weekend!!  Saturday we pretty much hung out at the house. Sunday was Lance's first day back to church in a long time. He walked in so proud. He was struggling a little with his pants, because no matter how tight you make his belt his clothes just don't fit. After church was over all his buddies came by and let him now how glad they were to see him. This meant a lot to all of us. He also got to meet Chris Davis #63 from UGA. Chris took pictures with him and gave him and Emory a poster and picture. They thought that was great. We feel so loved by everyone there.

Lance requested to go to Sonia's yet again and believe or not I of all people really wasn't in the mood ( I guess I should have taken my temp) but we went anyway this one last time. Lance goes back for a cath on Wednesday and I am sure they will lay down the law regarding his diet. I said we would give him this week to get out his wants and then it would be back to reality.

Lance keeps getting stronger!!!

He made it through his second day of school and almost made it all the way till the end of the day. He made it to 1:15. Grandma Judy is staying with him in his classroom. He is getting stronger everyday and has his old personality back in full force. I Had lunch with a new heart buddy today and it was great. I don't think either of us stopped talking for a minute and we closed the place down. We finally looked around and saw we were the only one's in the place and decided to move it outside. She is great, her name is Rachele and she is just what I need. It was so nice to talk to her about her journey with her daughter. She is a great person and I know a life long friend.

He went back to school this morning!

Lance went to school this morning and he was as proud as a peacock. I drove him and stayed for about 45 minutes to get him situated. Grandma Judy is staying with him the rest of the day. I am so glad that Mrs. Lee suggested it. He was so happy to be back and everyone at the school made him feel so welcome. They  even welcomed him back over the morning announcements. It was really touching to us!!! I don't think the little girl that sits in front of Lance knows quite what to think of him; she stares at him with a funny look on her face. I guess she is thinking "what is that thing coming out of his nose".

He had P.E. first thing this morning and the coaches were great with him. All I can say is everyone at his school is AWESOME!!! We have had nothing vut great experiences since they started there. We LOVE BES!!!!!!

I wanted to let you know that he got his long awaited Sonia's Mexican and it was sooo good.
